Phishing is a type of deception designed to steal your identity. In phishing
scams, scam artists try to get you to disclose valuable personal data like
bank account information, credit card numbers, passwords, account data, or other
information by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an
appartently official electronic communication like email.
Pharming is when scam artists redirect internet traffic from one web site to a
different, identical-looking site in order to trick you into entering your user
name and password into the database on their fake site. Banking and financial sites
are often the target of these attacks, in which scam artists try to acquire your personal
information in order to access your bank account, steal
your identity, or commit other kinds of fraud in your name.
1.3. What protection do I have if I've responded to a phishing attempt?

1.4. Should I provide my user ID or password in an email?
You should never enter your user ID or password in an email.

They take on many forms, but most are very similar in tone harsh, demanding and
scary.

1.6. Does SurePayroll send out emails?
Yes. We use email and our web sites to inform potential customers about accounts and services
we offer that maybe of value. We also alert current customers of certain activites such as:
1.7. What should I do if I'm suspicious of an email bearing
the SurePayroll logo?
If you are suspicious, don't reply, click on, or enter any information. If it says it's
from SurePayroll and you are suspicious, you can forward it to
help@surepayroll.com. If you entered information
about your SurePayroll account, you should call us immediately. We investigate each incident
and take steps to prevent further unauthorized emails from being sent.
1.8. How can an email be fake when it has my personal information
correct and says it's from SurePayroll?
Scam artists collect data from multiple sources and combine it to create more convincing emails
designed to convince you to share information that should be confidential between you and us.
1.9. Why can't you stop the emails? Why don't you prosecute who's
responsible?
We can't share all the steps we take, but we are able to stop many scams. We work with domestic
and international law enforcement to track and arrest the criminals responsible. Many, however,
are based outside the United Sates, and disguise their email's origin by sending them from hacked
computers.
1.10. How can I tell if a SurePayroll email is legitimate?
Looks can be deceiving. As scam artists make more credible forgeries of legitimate emails and
websites, you can no longer rely on seeing familiar graphics like the SurePayroll logo to signify its
authencity. The key to determining the authenticity of an email lies in the tone of the message and
in the nature of the solicitation. Scam artists want you to give them information and they are not very
subtle about it. Our goal in contacting you via email is to:
1.11. How do scam artists know that I do business with SurePayroll?
They might not know anything about you specifically, but they do know SurePayroll is a rapidly
growing online payroll provider with customers all over the United States. Their idea is to cast
a very broad net in hopes of catching unsuspecting customers.
1.12. I don't have an account with SurePayroll, but I'm getting
emails about my SurePayroll account. Why?
Scam artists phish millions of email accounts, knowing that many of their targets will be among
the recipients. In the process, they end up sending email to many people who aren't customers.
1.13. What is SurePayroll doing to stop phishing and pharming?
We aggressively evaluate the messages, work with law enforcement to shut down scam artist operations
and provide resources to help you become more aware of the issue.
1.14. How are these scam artists getting my email address?
Scam artists obtain email addresses through various means, including purchasing mailing lists from
reputable companies. Often, they have no idea where you bank or do business. They just know that
we are a large online payroll provider, and if they phish enough people, they'll eventually get lucky.
